Our Story

Friends of Boky Mamiko (FBM) was born from direct engagement with—and firsthand witnessing of—the inspiring, transformative work of Boky Mamiko in rural Madagascar. Each of FBM’s founding directors has spent time in the communities served by Boky Mamiko, building relationships and gaining a deep understanding of both the challenges and the extraordinary potential within these communities.

Driven by passion

Through these on-the-ground experiences, critical needs became clear and a shared commitment emerged: to build an organization dedicated to strengthening and expanding the vital work already taking place. FBM was created to support students, teachers, and community-led initiatives, ensuring that locally driven solutions have the resources needed to thrive.

Through FBM, we work to advance the following mission objectives:

  • Strengthen education by supporting students, teachers, and schools through scholarships, salaries, libraries, books and learning materials, facilities, and expanded educational opportunities.

  • Promote employment creation through education and skills training, community-based initiatives, and support for local enterprises.

  • Improve health and nutrition by providing meals for schoolchildren and supporting child health and community wellness through infirmaries and nursing stations.

  • Protect the environment by advancing initiatives that preserve Madagascar’s unique biodiversity and promote sustainable practices.

  • Advance scientific research and literary work that enrich local knowledge, cultural expression, and community development.
